Measles is a viral disease caused by the paramyxovirus. It starts by affecting our respiratory system and is a major cause of the death of a large number of people worldwide even today. Thankfully, this highly infectious disease is controlled in the UK because of effective vaccination. The infection clears after 7 or 10 days. If you have been affected by measles once, changes are your body has built up resistance against this disease and you will not be affected by it again in your lifetime. Sometimes the rashes of measles can get confused with rashes of some other illnesses but a blood test can prove whether it is measles or not.
